Contigo Kids Recalls Water Bottles For Choking Hazard

Contigo Kids is recalling Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles because the clear silicone spout on the bottle can detach, posing a choking hazard. About 5.7 million bottles are being recalled in the U.S. About 157,000 of these bottles were sold in Canada, and about 28,000 were sold in Mexico.

The recalled product is Contingo Kids Cleanable water bottles. The base and cover of the clear silicon spout is black. Only the black color spout base and spout cover models are included in this recall. Contigo is printed on the rim and along the front near the bottom of the bottle. The bottles are in three sizes: 13 ounce, 14 ounce, and 20 ounce. And they are offered in four bottle colors: solid color, graphics, stainless steel, and stainless steel solid colors. They were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs.

Contigo has received 149 reports of the spout detaching. There are 18 reports of the spouts found in children’s mouths, but no reports of injuries have been received to date.

These bottles were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target, and other stores nationwide. They were also sold online on various websites from April 2018 through June 2019 for between $9 and $24.

Consumers should immediately stop using these bottles, take them away from children, and contact Contigo for inspection instructions and a free replacement lid.
