Hawaiian Sausage Company Sweet Filipino Longanisa Recalled

Heatherfield Foods of Ontario, California, is recalling about 4,380 pounds of Hawaiian Sausage Company’s Sweet Filipino Longanisa pork sausage products due to misbranding. The product has a gluten free claim on the label, but the product does contain gluten, in the form of wheat. However, wheat, one of the major food allergens, is listed in the product’s ingredient list on the package. No confirmed reports of adverse reactions have been received to date in connection with this issue.

The raw Sweet Filipino Longanisa sausage was produced between March 8 and July 31, 2019. The recalled product is 1 pound thermoform tray packages containing “Hawaiian Sausage Company Sweet Filipino Longanisa No Preservative Gluten Free No MSG” with lot codes 09067, 09081, 09088, 09113, 09130, 09148, 09156, 09163, 09170, 09179, 09193, and 09212 printed on the label. The sausages have the establishment number “EST. 4846” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Hawaii.

The problem was discovered after FSIS received a consumer complaint about the issue. If you purchased this product and cannot eat gluten or wheat, whether you are allergic to it or have celiac disease, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

FSIS is conducting retail effectiveness checks to make sure that this product is no longer on store shelves and is unavailable to consumers. The USDA is concerned that some of this product may be in consumers’ home freezers.
