The recall of Lee’s Tea brand Teas in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination has been updated. This additional information was found during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s food safety investigation. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall. The tea was sold nationwide at the retail level in that country.
NOTE: The CFIA posted a correction to the recalled products listed below on 3/28/17. The recalled products are all Lee’s Tea brand. The recalled items are Gold Rush Loose Leaf in 105 gram packages. The codes on the product are 4-102318, 4-102518, 2021FE11, 2021FE15, 04-02011, and 04-02021, and the UPC number is 6 28055 21002 3. Gold Rush Loose Leaf in 110 gram bags is recalled, with code 2020DE07 and UPC number 6 28055 21002 3. Also recalled is Mint Chill Loose Leaf in 60 gram packages. The codes on that product are 2-102518, 02-01019, and 02-02021, with UPC number 6 28055 21003 0. Added is Mint Chill Loose Leaf in 70 gram packages, with code 2020DE07 and UPC number 6 28055 21003 0.
Also recalled is Original Loose Leaf, in 50 gram packages, with codes 2020DE07 and 2020MR21, and UPC number 6 28055 21001 6. Original Loose Leaf in 60 gram packages is also recalled, with codes 1-101918 and 1-102518 and UPC number 6 28055 21001 6.
Pink Chai Loose Leaf is recalled, sold in 90 gram packages, with codes 3-112018, 3-102518, 2020DE07, 2021JA07, 2021JA23, 2021FE05, 2021FE11, 03-02021, 03-01019, and 03-02011, with UPC number 6 28055 21004 7. Finally, Pink Chai Loose Leaf in 30 gram packages is recalled, with code 3062718 and UPC number 6 28055 21014 6.
If you purchased any of these products, do not use them. Wrap the packages in foil or plastic wrap and put them into a secure garbage can. You can also return the tea to the place of purchase for a refund.
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, a fever, vomiting, abdominal and stomach cramps, and diarrhea that may be bloody. Symptoms typically start 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the pathogen. If you have been experiencing these symptoms, see your doctor.
