Five Cheese Stuffed Shells Recalled For Possible Listeria

Garland Ventures Ltd of Garland, Texas is voluntarily recalling 1095 cases of Five Cheese Stuffed Shells trays because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date to the company in connection with this issue.

The recalled Five Cheese Stuffed Shells were distributed nationwide in a limited number of retail stores. The product is packaged in 10.76 ounce aluminum foil containers with clear lids. The package contains shells with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and parsley. The lot number F080SS/F090SS is marked on the bottom of the label.

Samples tested through a certified laboratory found the presence of the pathogen in the product. Garland Ventures immediately stopped production and distribution of the product.

If you purchased this product in that size and with those lot numbers, do not eat it, even if you plan to reheat it first. Throw it away in a sealed package in  secure garbage can, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

You should then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product and after cleaning.

If you ate this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. That’s how long it can take for the illness to begin. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may think they are ill with the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. If you do start to feel sick, see your doctor.
