Fresh Express Recalls Walmart Marketside Iceberg Salad For Cyclospora

Fresh Express is recalling some of its Walmart Marketside Iceberg Salads because it may be contaminated with the cyclospora parasite. A cyclospora outbreak linked to bagged salads has sickened at least 206 people in 8 states in the midwest. Fresh Express has been named by the FDA as the manufacturer of salads potentially linked to that outbreak.

The recall is for all product codes of Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad that is sold in 12 and 24 ounce size packages. The best if used by dates on the packages are May 19, 2020 to July 4, 2020. They were distributed to select Walmart stores between June 1 and June 21, 2020 in Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Walmart retail stores are removing the product from its store shelves and inventories. If you have purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container in a secure garbage can so other people and animals can’t access it, or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product.

Symptoms of cyclosporiasis, the illness caused by this parasite, include severe abdominal pain and cramps, explosive and watery diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite, body aches, weight loss, gas, and bloating. Symptoms usually start 2 to 5 days after ingesting the parasite. This infection is treated with sulfa drugs.
