NOW Real Food Raw Macadamia Nuts Recalled For Salmonella

NOW Health Group of Bloomingdale, Illinois, is recalling one lot of its NOW Real Food Raw Macadamia Nuts because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date to the company in connection with this problem. The product was sold online and in retail stores nationwide.

The recalled product is NOW Real Food Raw Macadamia Nuts  that are sold in 8 ounce pouches. The item number on the package is 7119. The lot number is 3141055. And the best by date printed on the package is 01/2021. No other NOW Real Food products are affected or involved in this recall.

The company was told about the issue when routine sampling in a later lot of the finished product, which contained the same raw material used in the recalled lot, was positive for Salmonella. The later finished product was not released into the marketplace and is in quarantine.

The company has notified all retailers that received this particular lot of the nuts. They have also asked those retailers to let their customers know about this issue and the recall.

If you purchased those nuts with that lot number and item number, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container in a secure garbage can with a tight fitting lid, or take the product back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. A receipt is not required for a refund.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include a fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that may be bloody, and abdominal pain.  These symptoms usually start 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the pathogen.
