The USDA has found more Salmonella in breaded chicken products produced by Aspen Foods which was linked to a July Salmonella outbreak, but the company is refusing to issue a recall. To protect consumers from products produced at the Chicago plant which has a "systemic" Salmonella problem, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA- FSIS) has issued a public health alert and directed its personnel to detain all products covered by the alert found in commerce. Frozen, stuffed chicken entrees recalled for Salmonella were sold at Kroger, Giant, Schnucks, Aldi, Food Lion, Safeway and Pick n Save grocery stores. The recalled products have been linked to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened three people in Minnesota and may include illnesses in other states. The products were sold at these stores, and others, under a variety of brand names including: Acclaim, Antioch Farms, Buckley Farms, Centrella Signature, Chestnut Farms, Family Favorites, Kirkwood, Koch Foods, Market Day, Oven Cravers, Princess, Rose, Rosebud Farm, Roundy’s, Safeway Kitchens, Schwan’s, Shaner’s, Spartan and Sysco. Second MN Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Aspen Chicken
The USDA has announced that the second Minnesota Salmonella outbreak has been linked to Aspen Foods raw, breaded, stuffed frozen chicken products. The first outbreak, which has sickened at least six people, has been linked to recalled Barber Foods frozen raw chicken products. This Salmonella outbreak has sickened three people in Minnesota. Two of those patients have been hospitalized. Aspen Foods Recalls Frozen Breaded Chicken for Salmonella
Aspen Foods is recalling 1,978,680 pounds of frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. These products are linked to a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota. They were sold under multiple brand names. These products were produced between April 15, 2015 and July 10, 2015 with "best if used by" dates between July 14, 2016 and October 10, 2016. The product has the establishment number "P-1358" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were shipped to stores and food service locations nationwide. FSIS was notified of a Salmonella outbreak on June 23, 2015. Three case-patients have been identified in Minnesota.
