Smoked Rainbow Trout Products Recalled in Canada for Possible Botulism

Tarini Brothers Meat and Fish Market is recalling some Smoked Rainbow Trout products in Canada because they permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria. That bacteria produces the botulism toxin. These product were sold from the Tarini Brothers Meat and Fish Market at 1055 Lorne Street in Sudbury, Ontario. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The recalled products are all packed on dates up to and including 15.02.18. The package sizes of these products are variable. Organic Mushroom Soup Recalled in Canada for Possible Botulism

Organic Mushroom Soup sold at the Belleville Farmer's Market in Ontario, Canada is being recalled for possible botulism contamination. The soup is homemade. The soup was made in such a way that may permit the growth of the Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which produces the toxin. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall. The recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency test results. Government officials are conducting an investigation that may lead to the recall of other products. Pork Soup Is Being Recalled For Possible Clostridium Botulinum and Perfringens Contamination

Guymon Extracts, of Oklahoma, is recalling about 4,202 pounds of fully cooked pork soup. A processing deviation occurred that may have allowed the growth of Clostridium botulinum and Clostridium perfringens bacteria. These bacteria produce spores that produce toxins. The Clostridium botulinum spores produce botulism toxin, which can be deadly, and the Clostridium perfringens bacteria produce spores in the intestines that cause illness. The recall of roe in Canada for possible botulism contamination has been updated again. Imperial Caviar & Seafood and VIP Caviar Club have recalled whitefish roe and salmon roe for Clostridium botulinum, and have updated those recalls five times since late November, 2017. Don’t Make Canned Breads and Cakes; They Can Harbor Botulism Toxin

Scientists at Penn State are reminding consumers that recipes for canned breads and cakes are not safe and should not be made at home. Recipes for these items are often appear around holiday time every year. These products are low acid foods with a pH above 4.6, are not shelf-stable, and can't be safely stored at room temperature. In other words, they can harbor botulism toxin. These products are made by baking batters in glass canning jars. The jars are removed from the oven and sealed and cooled so a vacuum is created. That's where the trouble starts; in a vacuum. Clostridium botulism spores grow in unrefrigerated high moisture foods that are low in acid and exposed to little or no oxygen.
