Steve’s Real Food Raw Frozen Dog Food Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Steve's Real Food of Salt Lake City, Utah, is voluntarily recalling one lot of their frozen dog food turkey recipe for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses, human or pet, have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The recalled lot was distributed to pet food stores in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Kansas, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. Fifty-two cases were distributed between June 27, 2017 and July 15, 2017. The Steve's Real Food product was sold frozen in 5 pound bags. FDA Updates Pet Owners About Pentobarbital in Canned Smucker Dog Food

The FDA issued an alert in February 2018 about potential pentobarbital contamination in canned dog food that's manufactured by The J.M. Smucker Company. The brands affected are some types of Gravy Train, Kibbles 'N Bits, Ol' Roy, and Skippy products. On March 2, 2018, J.M. Smucker was told that the firm's actions to remove products is now considered a recall. A test by the firm confirmed the presence of pentobarbital in the tallow ingredient used in the Smucker dog food. The FDA is continuing to investigate this issue. Carnivore Meat Company is voluntarily recalling Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Beef Nibblets Entree for Dogs for possible Salmonella contamination. No reports of pet or human illness have been received by the company to date in connection with this issue. The recalled product is "Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Beef Nibblets Entree for Dogs." The product was sold in one pound bags throughout the country through independent retailers. It was also sold through online retailers Chewys.com and Amazon.com. The lot number of the recalled product is 13753. No products other than the specified product have been recalled. Two More Dog Foods Recalled: One for Salmonella, One for Listeria Monocytogenes

Two more brands of dog food are recalling some of their products; one for possible Salmonella contamination; the other for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No human or pet illnesses have been reported to date in either situation. The first recall is for "Treat Me Crunchy Beef Delight" products by TruPet of Milford, Ohio, for possible Salmonella. The product is sold in 2.5 ounce containers. It was sold throughout the country via the online retailer Chewy.com and at TruDog.com through direct delivery. It has lot number 20190514 13753. The Michigan Department of Agriculture collected a retail sample that tested positive for the pathogenic bacteria. FDA Alerts Pet Owners About Possible Pentobarbital Contamination in Smucker Dog Foods

The FDA is alerting pet owners about potential pentobarbital contamination in some canned dog foods manufactured by the J.M. Smucker Company. Positive pentobarbital results came in for certain cans of Smucker Dog Foods Gravy Train dog food. The company withdrew various canned dog food products from its Gravy Train, Kibbles 'N Bits, Ol' Roy, and Skippy brands. The FDA conducted a preliminary investigation of the testing results and found that the low level of pentobarbital in the Smucker Dog Foods products is "unlikely to pose a health risk to pets." Smokehouse Pet Products is recalling all sizes and all package types of pet treats labeled "Beefy Munchies" because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. That company recalled a limited amount of that product on February 9, 2018 and that recall has been expanded. The product was distributed nationwide through distributors selling to different retailers. The product comes in individual bags, resealable bags, and plastic tubs. FDA Investigates Pattern of Contamination in Darwin’s Natural and ZooLogics Raw Pet Foods Made by Arrow Reliance

The FDA is investigating a pattern of contamination in some raw pet foods made by Arrow Reliance. This includes Darwin's Natural Pet Products and ZooLogics Pet Food. Four recalls of those products have been issued from October 17, 2016 to February 10, 2018. You can see the list of these recalls at the FDA web site. Positive findings of Salmonella and/or Listeria monocytogenes bacteria triggered all of the recalls. In the most recent recall, Arrow Reliance/Darwin's Natural recalled ZooLogics Duck with Vegetable Meals for Dogs (Lot #41957) and ZooLogics Chicken with Vegetable Meals for Dogs (Lot #41567) because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Redbarn Pet Products of California is voluntarily recalling Bully Sticks because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue to date. The recalled products is Redbarn's 7-inch Bully Stick in three pack. The product was sold in pet specialty retail stores. The recalled item is in a 2.4 ounce, green plastic bag marked with an expiration date of 112120ABC stamped on the side. The product UPC number is #7 85184 25105 8. The Colorado Department of Agriculture found that a single sample collected from a retail location tested positive for the pathogenic bacteria. Two MN Children Sickened with Salmonella Reading Infections After Raws for Paws Pet Food Fed to Their Pets

Two children in Minnesota are sick with Salmonella Reading infections after Raws for Paws raw ground turkey pet food was fed to pets in their home, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. That pet food was recalled February 5, 2018 by the manufacturer, as Food Poisoning Bulletin told you earlier today. The children got sick in January. One child's infection resulted in osteomyelitis, which is a painful and serious bone infection. That child was hospitalized and is recovering at home now. The same strain of Salmonella Reading that made the children sick was found in samples of Raws for Paws Ground Turkey Pet Food for Pets. Two Pet Food Products Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Two pet food products have been recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. One of the recalled products has no illnesses linked to it; the other has had two reported illnesses. The first recall is for Smokehouse Pet Products, recalling limited lots of "Beefy Munchies." The product is sold in 4 ounce bags with UPC number 78565857957 and lot number 449294 and with a best used by date of 10/25/19 stamped on the back. They were sold in Washington, Michigan, North Carolina and Colorado through distributors selling to various retailers.
