Fresh Express is recalling a limited quantity of expired 10 ounce bags of Hearts of Romaine salad for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The salad has an expiration date of August 23, 2012 and a product code beginning with “G222″. The UPC number is 71279 26102 on the back of the package below the bar code.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall. And no other Fresh Express products are recalled. The company is contacting retailers to confirmed the salad was removed from store shelves. The product was distributed in limited quantities mostly to eastern and southeastern states of AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV.
A sample of a single package of the Romaine yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes are part of the FDA’s random sample testing program. For questions, call the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at 800-242-5472 from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm ET.
