Confit Tomatoes Recalled in Canada for Potential Botulism

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume certain Charcuterie Ratinaud French Cuisine brand Confit Tomatoes because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria. That bacteria can cause botulism, a life-threatening illness. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product.

The tomatoes were sold in jars with no net quantity declared on the label. They were sold only from Ratinaud French Cuisine at 2082 Gottingen Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria and toxin will not look, smell, or taste spoiled. Symptoms of botulism poisoning include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, double vision, dry throat, respiratory failure, and paralysis.
