More Information on Lipari Nut Products Recall for Listeria

The FDA has released information about the Lipari Foods recall of seed and nut products for possible Listeira monocytogenes contamination.  A list of recalled items has been posted; it goes way beyond sunflower seeds. The products were sold under the names “Alex’s Naturals”, “Pic-A-Nut”, Holiday Market, Zoppitty, Piggly Wiggly, and others. No illnesses associated with these products have been reported to date.

Lipari-RecallThe products include chocolate peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pepita seeds, sesame stix, pecan pieces, jumbo cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cherry berry mix, wasabi peas, yogurt pretzels, banana chips, Good & Plenty, hazelnuts, mixed nuts, pine nuts, crystallized ginger, and chocolate covered nuts. Look over the recalled items list carefully to see if you have purchased any of these products. You can see the UPC numbers and lot codes with the list. And you can see pictures of products labels at the FDA site.

The recall is the result of routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The potentially contaminated sunflower seeds were used in other snack mix products and may have cross-contaminated other products during production. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. For questions, contact the company at 586-447-3500 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm ET.
