Spokane Produce Recalls Hummus for Possible Listeria

Spokane Produce is recalling about 59 pounds of Victor’s Sesame Hummus because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection sin young children, frail or elderly people, and pregnant women. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Petri DishThe recall is for 11 ounce packages labeled “Victor™ – Toasted Sesame Hummus” with UPC number 6 09722 76501 5 and best by date of 12/29/13. It was sold at the retail level in Rosauers, Brewster Market, and SuperOne in Washington state and Montana.

Listeria was discovered during routine testing of newly released product. The listeria test is an indicator of several Listeria species and does not specifically indicate Listeria monocytogenes. If you purchased this product, do not eat it; return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If you ate any of the recalled hummus, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. That is how long it can take for symptoms to appear after exposure. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and other flu-like symptoms.
