In Canada, Beef Balls Recalled for Listeria Monocytogenes

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Nha Trang Deli are recalling Nha Trang Beef Balls because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to manifest after exposure.

The recalled product is Nha Trang Deli Inc. Beef Balls in 454 gram packages. The code on the product is Best Before Dates from 14 11 27 to 14 12 05, inclusively. The UPC number is 6 20937 00001 2. They were sold in British Columbia at the retail level.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

If you ate this product, you must monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may only become mildly ill, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and infection in newborns babies. If you do become ill, see your doctor immediately and tell him you ate this recalled product.

  1. I wish this was posted earlier and had more media coverage…I’m pregnant and had these on Remembrance Day. 🙁

    • Linda Larsen says

Please monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for 70 days after you ate the beef balls. The odds are good you’ll be just fine, but if you do get sick, tell your doctor you ate this recalled product.

    • Dear Mom-to-be,

The good news is that Listeria monocytogenes can be killed during cooking. Unless you ate this product straight from the package (which is quite unlikely), your odds are good.

      Wish you a healthy pregnancy.
