Quesito Casero Cheese Recalled for Possible Listeria

Oasis Brands of Florida is recalling Quesito Casero cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by Listeria bacteria can take up to 70 days to produce symptoms.

Quesito Casero Listeria RecallThe recalled product is Quesito Casero in 12 ounce packages. The expiration date is 09/27/14. It was distributed in North Carolina and Virginia through retail stores. The product is packaged in plastic bags. The label states “Quesito Casero 12oz, Brand Lacteos Sta. Martha, Fresh Curd, Exp. Date 09/27/14.

The recall was issued as a result of routine sampling program by the company. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard it in a double plastic bag, or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands after handling this product.

Then clean your kitchen with a mild bleach solution to kill the bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes can grow at refrigerator temperatures, so it’s important to clean the inside of the fridge as well as counters, handles, and the rest of the kitchen.

If you ate any of the recalled items, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness, but listeriosis can cause premature delivery, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn. If you are sick, please see your doctor and tell her you ate recalled product.
