Wegmans Recalls Cinnamon Raisin Buns for Undeclared Egg

Wegmans Food Markets is recalling 1,315 units of Wegmans Cinnamon Raisin Buns because they may contain egg, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the label. Anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to egg could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat this product.

The recall was initiated when a Wegmans employee reported the finished product may have been sprayed with a raw egg product. [Editor’s note: if the product was sprayed with raw egg, it shouldn’t be consumed by anyone, not just those with an egg allergy, because of possible risk of pathogenic bacteria. Anyone with weakened immune systems or chronic illnesses, or the elderly or small children, should especially avoid this product.] No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date.

The recalled item is 12 ounce packages of Wegmans Cinnamon Raisin Buns with UPC number 77890 92218 and a use-by date of 6/19/14 only. The buns have a white frosting and are sold in the bakery department. They are packaged in a clear plastic clamshell.  The product was sold in 84 Wegmans stores located in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia and Maryland.
