Green Valley Food Corporation Recalls Alfalfa Sprouts

Green Valley Food Corporation is recalling 650 cases of Alfalfa sprouts because of possible contamination with Salmonella, a bacteria that cause cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

  • “Let’s Grow Healthy Together!” Alfalfa Sprouts
  • 5-ounce containers that measure 4″ x 4″ with a lid
  • UPC number 714722228818
  • Code date on shipping box is orange tag with the number 3440210
  • Containers have a white tag on the upper right side of the label with a date of 1/1/2012
  • Product was distributed to retail chains and food distribution centers in Texas via truck deliveries, and may have been purchased by consumers

If your corporation is affected by this recall, you’ll be getting a letter asking for the quantities you received and where they are currently. Please respond as soon as possible.

No confirmed illnesses have been reported related to consumption of this product, but this is the beginning of the recall. This recall is a cautionary measure. The positive sample was found and reporter by a customer. Green Valley Food Group is working with the FDA on this recall.

Salmonella can be deadly to young children, the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic illnesses. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, which may be bloody, abdominal pain. A Salmonella infection can get into the bloodstream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
