Canada Expands XL Foods E. coli Beef Recall for Tenth Time

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded the recall of XL Foods beef products for E. coli 0157:H7 for the 10th time. The products were distributed nationally and are associated with the same XL Foods manufacturing dates of August 24, 27, 28, 29, and September 5, 2012 as the previous recalls. You can see the list of recalled products at the CFIA website.

WarningThe products were sold at CO-OP, Metro, Food Basics, Marché Richelieu, Marchés AMI, Metro, Metro F, Metro Plus, Metro Plus F, Super C, Steakhouse Angus Select, and Walmart. The recalled products include tournedos, kabobs, all fresh beef products, steaks, and stir fry strips. There are several illnesses associated with the consumption of these products; namely mechanically tenderized steaks sold at Costco.

Traceback investigations mean that this recall will most likely be expanded again. If you have purchased beef products, check with the retailer to see if it was part of this recall. If in doubt, throw it out. E. coli 0157:H7 is a dangerous bacteria that can cause kidney failure and death. For questions and more information, contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
