Eclectic Institute Dietary Supplements Recalled

Eclectic Institute is voluntarily recalling lots of freeze-dried capsules containing Gotu Kola (Centalla asiatica) and Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) because of potential contamination with Salmonella. The supplements are used as herbal remedies.

An audit of micro-testing recoreds revealed that one batch of each product had conflicting lab results. One test was positive and one was negative for Salmonella, so the recall was initiated. No illnesses have been reported in connection with consumption of these products.

Eclectic Institute sold these supplements to retailers, individual consumers, and health practitioners. Please look at these numbers carefully, because some are very similar to the others. Product details are:

All of the affected products are freeze-dried capsules packed in glass or plastic bottles. Lot numbers are on the bottom of the product label. The Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) products were sold from September 14, 2011 to December 14, 2011. The Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) products were sold from July 14, 2011 to December 14, 2011. No other Eclectic Institute products are affected by this recall.
