Salmonella Outbreak Associated with Eat a Pita Grows

The Hamilton public health department has announced that four cases of Salmonella have been confirmed and another 36 are being investigated. All are associated with the Eat a Pita restaurant in that city.

Dr. Chris Mackie, an associate medical officer of health with the Hamilton public health department, says that the restaurant has been shut down temporarily. Two inspections this month found that cooked chicken was being held at an unsafe temperature (below 140 degrees F).

Last week, one case of Salmonella and one cases of gastrointestinal illness were connected to the restaurant through lab tests. An outbreak was declared when two more cases were connected.

If you ate at this restaurant since February 1, please contact the Hamilton public health office at 1-905-546-2063. If you ate there and have suffered any symptoms of food poisoning, including chills, fever, headache, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, see your doctor and call the health office.
