Vitaflo USA Recalling Renastart

Vitaflo USA is voluntarily recalling Renastart cans because some of the product has been labeled incorrectly. This product is a powdered medical food given to pediatric kidney patients.

Product details:

  • Renastart 14.11 ounce (400 gram) cans
  • Batch Number 12832
  • The batch number is stamped on the bottom of the can
  • Shipped throughout the United States from December 29, 2011 through January 26, 2011

There have been no illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Renastart is given to children one year and older. All other Vitaflo and Renastart products other than cans with the batch number 12832 are safe. This product is sold only in the United States, and only under the name Renastart.

The company found that some of the cans labeled Renastart actually contained a different product after a customer complained about how the product was dissolving in water.

If a child with kidney disease is given the incorrectly labeled product, they may experience high potassium or high sodium blood levels. The symptoms may be mild to non-existent, which makes it difficult to tell if the child is sick, but these conditions can cause death in renal patients.

If you have these cans with this batch number, stop using it immediately and contact Vitaflo to arrange a return, at Vitaflo’s expense. All patients who have consumed Renastart from this batch should immediately see their doctors.

For questions and to arrange a return, call Vitaflo 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 1-888-848-2356. Your doctor can also call this number for questions and concerns.
