Reser’s Listeria Recall Prompts Secondary Recalls

We’ve been telling you about the recalls of Reser’s ready to eat products and Taylor Farms products for possible Listeria contamination for days now. The recalls get confusing because some are for the same product. We’d rather be safe than sorry, so we may have been reporting about the same information. Having said that, the FDA has released another recall notice, about secondary recalls; those are recalls of products made with recalled ingredients.

Important RecallSo, these new recalls cover many more products and many  more stores. To see the full list of recalled products, along with expiration dates, names of the store where they were sold, and states where they were sold, please visit the FDA web site.

The stores that are recalling products include Florida Food Service Inc., Sysco, Dominick’s, Ahold Financial Services, All Island Food Distributors Corp., Associated Wholesalers, Big Y Foods, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Crescent Packing Corp., DPI Mid Atlantic Inc., Market Basket, Price Chopper, Mars Super Markets, Redner’s Market, RLB Food Distributors, Shaw’s, Supervalu, C&S Upper Marlboro, Trucchi’s Supermarkets, Wakefern Food Corporation, Weis Markets, Randalls/Tom Thumb, Priceless Foods, Cooke’s Food Store, Food World, BILO, Winn Dixie, Houchen’s Market, and Meijer. In addition, Piggly Wiggly, Schnuck’s, and Performance Food Group are part of the recall.

The recalled products range from the Broccoli Crunch Salad Kit recalled in early notices, Giardiniera Vegetable Salad, the Spinach Antipasti Salad Kit recalled earlier, Cole Slaw Kit, Diced Summer Slaw Kit, Broccoli Cheddar Kit, G&G Italian Pasta, and Italian Pasta Salad Kit. Basically, if you purchased a salad at a deli recently, look at this list to see if your purchase has been recalled.

The products were sold in many states, from Florida to Illinois to New York to Massachusetts. If you purchased any of these products, return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next two months, because that’s how long it can take for symptoms to manifest. The symptoms of a Listeria infection are flu-like, including fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, GI problems, headache, stiff neck, and confusion. Listeria can be serious in those in high risk groups, and can cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.
