Wycen Foods of California is recalling about 809 pounds of Chinese style chicken sausages, a dried snack food, because they contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) that is not declared on the label. There have been no reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of this product. For some people, MSG can cause headache, flushing, sweating, numbness, tingling, and burning, rapid, fluttering heartbeats, chest pain, nausea, and weakness.
The chicken sausages were produced June 12, August 14, September 4, and October 24, 2013 and sold at a single San Francisco retail location. The products have a shelf life of one year. Some consumers may refrigerate, continue to air dry, or freeze them. The problem was discovered by FSIS during label verification. The company changed the product to include MSG but did not change the label.
