A law firm is representing seven people who were sickened in a Salmonella outbreak at Old Country Buffet in Maple Grove, MN. At least 23 people who ate at the restaurant in late January became ill, one of them was hospitalized.
Salmonella outbreaks are unfortunately common in this country. Symptoms of this illness, such as abdominal cramps and diarrhea, usually develop within six and 72 hours of exposure and last about a week. In some cases, the infections can have long-term health effects such as reactive arthritis.
So far, 11 of the 23 salmonellosis cases associated with the Maple Grove Old Country Buffet have been confirmed through lab tests. These tests identify the “genetic fingerprint” of the Salmonella outbreak strain allowing health investigators to determine which cases are linked and if there are any matches to samples taken from the restaurant.
State and county health officials are working together on the ongoing investigation. A food source has not yet been identified.
