A Salmonella outbreak in Russellville, AL includes three confirmed and nine suspected cases, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health. Health officials are interviewing those who became ill to identify the source.
The three confirmed cases include one child and two adults. Those who became sick likely ingested the contaminated food on June 4 or June 5, health officials said. Some people in Russellville area have contacted WHNT News saying they believed they contracted Salmonella food poisoning from a local restaurant. Restaurants are common sources of food poisoning outbreaks.
Salmonella poisoning causes symptoms that include vomiting, fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that is sometimes bloody. In a small percentage of cases, the infection moves from the digestive tract to the bloodstream causing severe, or life-threatening illness.
