Organic Sprouted Chia Seed Powder Recalled in Canada for Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Back 2 the Garden Inc. are recalling Organic Sprouted Chia Seed Powder for possible Salmonella contamination. No reported illnesses have been received in association with the consumption of this product.

The recalled product is Back 2 the Garden Organic Sprouted Chia Seed Powder in 200 gram containers. The code on the product is EVCH0150529-04 BB/MA JUL-2016 and the UPC number is 6 27843 15900 1. It was sold nationally at the retail level and was also sold through internet sales.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard it in a sealed or double bagged container so other people and animals can’t eat it, or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Food contaminated with this bacteria will not look, taste, or smell different or spoiled. Long term complications of a Salmonella infection can include Reiter’s Syndrome, which may cause reactive arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and heart problems.
