Listeria monocytogenes can make pets sick if they eat contaminated food, and can sicken the people they live with. The bacteria is secreted in the feces, which can get onto carpets, furniture, and the pet’s coat. Human symptoms include headache, high fever, stiff neck, and diarrhea. Pet symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and depression. If your pet is sick, see your veterinarian. If you get sick, see your doctor.
