Hy Vee Recalls Cheesecake Made with Diamond Crystal Mix For Possible Salmonella

Hy Vee, based in West Des Moines, Iowa, is recalling its cheesecakes that were made with Diamond Crystal Brands cheesecake mix for possible Salmonella contamination. Their supplier let them know about this issue. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The mix was distributed to 117 of Hy-Vee’s 249 grocery stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The specific stores were not named. The cheesecake mix itself is in a plastic container with a plastic lid, with expiration date ranging from December 6, 2018 to January 11, 2019.

You can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA web site, along with product package sizes and UPC numbers. The recalled products include Cherry Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake, Pumpkin Fluff Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Mint Cheesecake, Turtle Cheesecake, Strawberry Bettercreme Cheesecake, Lemon Bettercreme Cheesecake, Golden Oreo Bettercreme Cheesecake, Smores Bettercreme Cheesecake, and Chocolate Bettercreme Cheesecake, among others. These products were packaged in both 8 ounce and 32 ounce package sizes. Hy Vee removed these products from store shelves as soon as they were notified about the situation. The cheesecakes also have best if used by dates of December 6, 2018 through January 11, 2019.

All other Hy-Vee cheesecakes of the same variety but with a different UPC number are not affected by this recall. If you purchased any of these recalled products, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed package or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund.

A Salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea that may be bloody, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. If you have experienced these symptoms, see your doctor.
