H. Van Wijnen Smoked Salmon Recalled for Possible Botulism

A & E Distribution is recalling H. Van Wijnen brand Smoked Atlantic Salmon Filet in Canada because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria if sold refrigerated. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. It was sold in New Brunswick, Quebec, and possibly nationally at the retail level. This is an update of the Fjord Laks fish products recall earlier this month. The recalled product is H. Van Wijnen brand Smoked Atlantic Salmon Filet Royal in 170 gram packages. All "best before" dates up to and including July 29, 2016 are recalled. The UPC numbers on the product are variable. Food Poisoning Flashback: Deadly Botulism Outbreak at Church Potluck

Last summer, a deadly botulism outbreak was linked to a potluck meal at Cross Pointe Free Will Baptist Church in Ohio. Twenty nine people were sickened, two people died. Previously, one fatality had been reported in connection with the largest botulism outbreak to strike the U.S. in 40 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most of those sickened described onset of symptoms two days after attending the potluck. Home-canned potatoes in potato salad were the likely source of the outbreak, health officials concluded. Verano Mushroom Soup Recalled for Possible Botulism

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Raices Food Inc. is recalling Verano Food Purveyors brand Mushroom Soup because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The recalled product is Verano Food Purveyors Mushroom Soup in two sizes. The 500 ml size and 1 liter size is recalled. There is no UPC Number on the product. All codes up to an including XP July 19 are recalled. The soup was sold in Nova Scotia at the retail level. Recall of Fjord Laks Products for Botulism Updated

The Canadian recall of products from Fjord Laks for possible botulism contamination has been updated to include another product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products. The products are sold in the refrigerated section in supermarkets in Quebec. You can see the original recall for three other products at the CFIA web site. This recall adds Fjord Laks Scottish Smoked Salmon in 100 gram containers. All Best Before dates up to and including July 18, 2016 are recalled. The UPC number on the product is variable. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Al Rasheed Sardines were shipped to retail stores in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Mary’s Home Canning Recalls Soup for Possible Botulism

Mary's Home Canning is recalling Mary's Homemade Vegetable Soup because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria. This bacteria can cause life-threatening illness or death. The bacteria will not make the product, look, taste, or smell spoiled. The FDA found that the pH of the product was high (a low pH discourages bacterial growth), and the soups were not adequately processed at the proper temperature. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recalled product is Mary's Homemade Vegetable Soup in 16 ounce jars and in 32 ounce jars.
