Update on Castle Cheese Recalled for Listeria in Canada

The recall for Castle Cheese Inc.’s Okanagan’s Choice shredded cheeses for Listeria in Canada has been expanded to include more types. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products. The cheeses were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, and may have been distributed in other provinces.

Meddo Cheese Listeria RecallThe original recall was for Okanagan’s Choice Cheeses in Nacho Blend, Cheddar Cheese, Mozzarella Cheese, and Parmesan cheese flavors, all shredded. The new recall includes Okanagan’s Choice Cheese Chipped Parmesan cheese in 175 gram containers, with UPC number 0 59756 07314 1 and best before date of 14 DE 31, and Okanagan’s Choice Shredded Parmesan cheese  in 175 gram containers with UPC number 0 59756 07210 6 and best before of 14 DE 31, a different expiration date from the first recall. Also recalled is Meddo Belle Crumbled Feta Cheese in 200 gram containers, with UPC number 0 62608 13907 0 and best before of 14 DE 13.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them; discard them or return to the place of purchase for a refund. You can see all the pictures of the product labels at the CFIA web site.

If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may be only mildly ill with flu-like symptoms, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
