FDA Enforcement Report 2/29/2012

The FDA released their weekly Enforcement Report this morning. This report details recalls and field corrections; some are not released to the public any other way. Some of the recalls have been completed, which is why they’re included in the report.

1. Flamingo Poop Deluxe Chocolate Candy.Allergen alert: the product contains peanuts that are not listed on the label. Firm initiated recall is ongoing. Net weight of the bags is 6 ounces. Manufacturer is Mar-Len Confections doing business as Florida Chocolate Specialties of Largo, Florida. Product details:

2. Anytime Deli Turkey and Ham Footlong. This product contains eggs that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Florida initiated recall is ongoing. Part of the larger Michael Foods egg recall. Product was distributed in Florida and south Georgia.

3. Humel Foods brand Dried Pachyrhizus (also known as jicama or yam bean). This product, imported by Humel Trading of Jamaica New York, was recalled in 2010. The New York initiated recall is complete. The product contained undeclared sulfites. Distributed in New York.

4. deLISH Egg Salad on Honey Wheat. This sandwich was part of the larger Michael Foods hard-cooked egg recall. The firm initiated recall is ongoing. Recalling firm is GH Foods CA LLC of Sacramento, California. Distributed in California.

5. Pies sold under the brand name Kris’ Kitchen.Three types of pies were recalled because they contained milk, an allergen, but milk is not listed on the label. THe FDA initiated recall is complete. Recalling firm is Kristina Krabills Kitchen LLC of Lebanon, Oregon. Product was distributed in Oregon. Product details:

  • Sugar Free Oregon Marionberry Pie in 9″ up to 13″ deep dish pies.
  • Oregon Wild Blackberry Pie, 9″ up to 13″ deep dish pies.
  • Peach Pie, 9″ up to 13″ deep dish pie.

6. Jones’ Mock Salt. This product was recalled in January for possible Salmonella contamination. The firm initiated recall is ongoing. Distributed nationwide.

7. Hard cooked eggs. This recall is of Michael Foods Egg Products. The firm initiated recall is ongoing. Listeria monocytogenes was found in some of the lots. More than 15,000 tubs were sold to distributors, triggering a large number of smaller recalls. The eggs had use-by dates that ranged from 1/30/2012 to 3/8/2012. Distributed nationwide and in Canada.

8. Organic Jam my Sam my snack size sandwich bars.Product was manufactured by The Nest Collective doing business as Plum Organics of Emeryville, California. Recall was for undeclared peanut butter. Recall was initiated February 3, 2011 and is ongoing. Distributed nationwide. Product details:

  • Organic Jam my Sam my snack size sandwich bars
    • Strawberry jam and peanut butter
    • Packaged in cartons of 5 1.3-ounce bars
    • UPC number 8 96766 00116 6
    • Expiration date 6/2012

9. Walgreens Chocolate Covered Raisins. Product contained undeclared peanuts, almonds, and soy. The firm initiated recall is ongoing. Manufacturer is GKI Foods, Inc. of Brighton, Michigan. Distributed nationwide.

10. Large Mouth Smelt.This produce is manufactured by Maruman Yamada Suisan Co., LTD or Soo-Gun, Japan. The recalling firm is Daiel Trading Co., Inc. of College Point, New York. Recall from March 1, 2011. The firm initiated recall is complete. The product was found to be uneviscerated. Distributed in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Product details:

  • Gourmet Family brand LARGE MOUTH SMELT (KOMOCHI SHISHAMO)
    • Net weight 3.5 ounce (100 gram)

    • Product of Japan
    • Product is vacuum packed in a styrofoam tray.

11. Spartan Salads. This recall is associated with the Michael Foods hard-cooked egg recall. This recall was initiated on January 27, 2012 and is ongoing. Sell-by dates are 1-20-12 through 2-1-12. Distributed in Michigan.

12. Chicken Salad Sandwiches. This is also associated with the Michael Foods hard-cooked egg recall. Recall was initiated on February 4, 2012, because the products contain egg that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, and is ongoing. Recalling firm is Grand Strand Sandwich Company, Inc. of Longs, South Carolina. Distributed in North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

13. Shakleebaby Multivitamin and Multimineral Powder.This dietary supplement is being recalled because they have an iodine level higher than claimed on the label. Label claim is 35 mcg/serving: test found two batches had levels of 756/4 to 1820 mcg. Recalling firm is Shakee Corp. of Pleasanton, California. Recall initiated on January 24, 2012. Distributed nationwide. Product details:

14. Mashed potatoes. Simplot Traditions 100% Real Seasoned Potato Flakes, recalled because the product contains undeclared soy lecithin. Firm initiated recall is ongoing. The recalling firm is Giant Eagle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Distributed in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Manufacturer is JR Simplot Co. Inc. of Caldwell, Idaho. Product details:

15. Vegetable Dip.this product is being recalled because it has undeclared milk, but cheese is listed as an ingredient. Manufactured by Stubblefield Enterprises, Inc. doing business as De Casa Fine Foods of Eugene, Oregon. Recall initiated February 2, 2012. More than 2,000 products in the market. All products sold in 8 ounce size polypropylene container, sold individually or 12 per case. All products have “sell by” date that is 6 weeks from the date of production. Product distributed in Oregon and Washington. Product details:

17. Cookie dough.Little Caesars Cookie Dough, as part of a fundraising program, is recalled since the inner product packaging was incorrectly labeled. The product contains peanut butter and tree nuts but the label doesn’t state this fact. The recalling manufacturer is Champion Foods LLC of New Boston, Michigan. Firm initiated recall began on February 10, 2012 and is ongoing. Distributed in Michigan, New Hampshire, and Missouri. Product details:
