Tahina Recalled in Canada Because of Possible Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Phoenicia Group of St-Laurent, Quebec are voluntarily recalling Alkanater brand Tahina (sesame seed paste) because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

  • Alkanater brand Tahina
  • Sold in 454 gram containers
  • UPC number 6 92551 00002 0
  • Codes “Prod: 5/7/2011” and “Exp.: 5/7/2013”

Other 454 gram containers of Alkanater brand Tahina with an additional code “Lot: TT3N-281011” inkjetted on the container are not affected by this recall.

There have been no reported illnesses connected with the consumption of this product. But remember that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look different or have an off aroma. Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, with symptoms such as high fever, vomiting, nausea, severe headache, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
