Three More Derviative Recalls of Products Made with Sunland Peanuts

Three more companies have announced derivative recalls for products made with Sunland peanuts. The products are recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Sunland Inc. made Trader Joe’s Valencia peanut butter, which has been recalled and linked to a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened at least 35 people in 19 states. No confirmed illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products.

AdvancePierre Foods is recalling frozen peanut butter products because they were made with Sunland peanuts.  You can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA site. The following products are included in the recall: Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (frozen), peanut butter and jelly graham cracker sandwiches (frozen), and peanut butter cups (frozen). They were manufactured between July 17, 2011 through May 18, 2012 and distributed nationwide through retail stores, food service, convenience stores, and the USDA commodity foods programs. That means they were distributed in the nation’s schools. The USDA is also involved in this recall. Some of the brands recalled include On the Go, Jamwich, and Jamz.

PureFit is recalling Peanut Butter Crunch nutrition bars because they may be contaminated with Salmonella from Sunland peanuts. They were distributed throughout the United States between March and August of 2012, in health food stores, grocery stores, and online retailers. The 2 ounce PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch is recalled, with UPC number 812787001008 and best by dates of 1 March 2013 and 12 July 2013. The box of 15 PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch is recalled, with UPC number 812787002005 and best by dates of 1 March 2013 and 12 July 2013. Meadow Gold Dairy is recalling Western Family “Creamery Select” Premium Ice Cream in Peanut Butter Cup flavor because it was manufactured for Western Family and made with Sunland ingredients. The ice cream is in 1.5 quart (1.42 L) “scround” containers with UPC number 15400 21432, plant code 49-11, and any “best by” dates ranging from 9/9/2011 to 10/3/2013. The ice cream was sold in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. For questions, call 1-800-587-2259 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CT.
