Valley Fine Foods, of Forest City, North Carolina, is recalling 35,516 pounds of heat-treated, not fully cooked Three Bridges Simple Dishes meat and poultry products because they may be contaminated. The products may contain "spoilage organisms that have rendered it unwholesome and fit for human food," according to the USDA. No confirmed reports of illness have been received to date. The problem was discovered on October 4, 2018, by the establishment's research and development facility during routine internal testing. FSIS was told about this issue on October 10, 2018. Product Quest Manufacturing, after recalling CVS Health 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist for microbial contamination, is now recalling all lots of nasal products and baby oral gels that were made at that company's Florida facility. While there is no known microbial contamination associated with those products, they are issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution. The microbes found in the nasal mist product were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Repetitive use of a nasal spray or other nasal product that contains this pathogen can lead to an infection that can be life-threatening in certain populations. King Bio is voluntarily recalling It's Kids and Infant products for possible microbial contamination. According to the USDA, John Morrell and Co., based in Cincinnati, Ohio, recalled the hot dogs – produced on January 26, 2017 – after receiving three reports from consumers that they had been contaminated with extraneous metal materials. The (FDA) has announced that multiple BrightFarms salad products have been recalled due to the possible presence of metal construction materials. This contamination arose due to construction at the Elkwood, Virginia (Culpeper County) greenhouse farm where the salad greens were grown. The BrightFarms branded salads were distributed to and sold at Giant Food stores (Giant Landover, Giant Carlisle, Peapod, and Martin’s Food Markets) in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia. Cal Poly Recalls Chocolate Bars for Possible Contamination
Cal Poly has recalled six varieties of its chocolate candy bars for undeclared allergens and possible microbial contamination. The university makes chocolates at a food processing lab on campus that is managed by students. The chocolate may contain undeclared peanut, milk, or soy allergens and may have been exposed to bacteria, yeast, or mold. There have been no reports of illness or allergic reaction as of Monday, October 6, 2014. The bars were made on equipment that may have experienced product buildup. That means other ingredients such as peanuts could be in chocolate bars that were not made with those ingredients. The failure occurred on October 3, 2014. Stonyfield Extends Recall of YoBaby Yogurt
Stonyfield is extending its voluntary recall of YoBaby Peach/Pear Yogurt first issued on April 25, 2014. The recall now includes an addition 1,344 six-packs shipped to 271 more stores. The stores that carry the product are mostly Safeway and Fred Meyer stores in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, and northern California. The yogurts may contain Klebsiella pneumoniae, a bacteria that usually don't cause illness when they are in food, but they sometimes do. The bacteria may have variations in their genes, which could change how they cause illness, along with the severity of that illness.
