Market Day ChicNSteakes Recalled for Undeclared Wheat and Soy

Aspen Foods Division of Koch Foods of Illinois is recalling 1,140 pounds of chicken steak products because they contain wheat and soy, two of the major food allergens, that are not declared on the label. Those with an allergy to these ingredients could have a serious allergic reaction if they eat this product. No reports of adverse reactions have been received to date. The recalled product is 2 pound boxes containing vacuum-packages of "Market Day Teriayki Flavored ChickNSteakes" that are actually packed in boxes labeled "Market Day Lemon Pepper ChickNSteakes". They were produced on December 13, 2014. The products have the establishment number "P-1358" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Mann’s Snap Peas Recalled in Canada for Undeclared Allergens

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Sobey's, along with Walmart Canada are recalling Mann's brand Mediterranean Style Snap Pea Sensations because it contains mustard, sesame, soy, and wheat that are not declared on the label. People with an allergy to those ingredients could have a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No reported reactions have been received to date. Chili Seasoning Kits Recalled for Undeclared Peanuts and Almonds

Reily Foods of Louisiana is recalling Carroll Shelby brand and Wick Fowler brand chili seasoning kits because they may contain peanut and almond allergens not declared on the label. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and SA Sausages are recalling Serengeti Trading ready to eat meat products because they contain mustard and/or sulphites that are not declared on the label. CSPI Asks FDA to Label Sesame an Allergen

Regular readers of this site know that recalls are often issued in Canada for sesame seeds, but those types of recalls are not issued in the U.S. The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is asking the FDA to require that sesame be disclosed on food labels in the same manner as the other major food allergens, which include milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, what, and soy. When Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act in 2004, the "Big 8" allergens account for 90% of allergic reactions caused by food. But experts think that sesame is an emerging cause of severe allergy. About 300,000 to 500,000 Americans are allergic to sesame. Pierogi Products Recalled for Undeclared Allergens

Kasia's Deli of Illinois is recalling 2,059 pounds of pierogi products because of misbranding and undeclared wheat, soy, eggs, and milk. Those ingredients are four of the major food allergens.
