Just 3 percent of food poisoning outbreaks include case patients from multiple states, yet these multistate outbreaks account for the most fatalities stemming from food poisoning outbreaks, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). About 56 percent of all outbreak fatalities are associated with those that involve multiple states. Multistate outbreaks also account for 34 percent of all hospitalizations and 11 percent of all illnesses associated with food poisoning outbreaks. Adolf’s Meat Products of Hartford, Conn. is recalling approximately 224 pounds of assorted meat that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers who have purchased these meats should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. The recalled items, produced on Oct. 20, 2015 and sold at retial locations in Connecticut are: Smoked Kielbasa, Ham, Canadian Bacon, Bone-In Pork Loins and Liverwurst. The smoked kielbasa products have establishment number “EST. 34651” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Blue Bell ice cream will begin appearing on store shelves next week - four months after a deadly Listeria outbreak prompted a recall of all of its products and the temporary closure of its production facilities. Many of the illnesses were linked to contaminated single-serve ice cream products made for Blue Bell's institutional clients. Those at highest risk of Listeria include seniors, children, the frail and the immune compromised are served by these institutional clients which include hospitals, nursing homes, schools and retirement communities like the one where David Philip Shockley worked. After Listeria Outbreak, Blue Bell Ice Cream Returns to Stores in TX, AL

On August 31, Blue Bell ice cream will appear on select store shelves for the first time since April when a deadly Listeria outbreak triggered a recall of all of its products and the temporary closure of its production facilities. Stores in the metropolitan areas of Brenham, Houston and Austin, Texas; and Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama will be the first to begin selling the ice cream. Blue has three manufacturing facilities: one in Brenham, Texas where its headquarters are located, another in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and a third in Sylacauga, Alabama.
