More Peanut Recalls Linked to Sunland Products

Three more recalls have been announced linked to Sunland products that have been recalled for possible Salmonella contamination.  Sunland products are the source of a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened at least 35 people in 19 states. The FDA found the outbreak strain of that bacteria in environmental samples taken at the Sunland facility and in Trader Joe's Valencia peanut butter. No illnesses have been reported with these specific recalled products. The FDA has a complete list of recalled products. Hines Nut Company is recalling peanuts that were distributed under the Hines or Dollar General Clover Valley label. Smucker’s Uncrustables Made With Recalled Peanut Butter Served In National School Lunch Program

Smucker’s Uncrustable peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, served to millions of students through the National School Lunch Program, are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination, Food Poisoning Bulletin has learned. Certain varieties of the crustless, individually wrapped sandwiches sold in bulk boxes to school districts nationwide contain peanut butter made by Sunland Inc., a Portales, NM peanut butter maker whose recall, issued in late September, has grown to include more than 240 products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which operates the National School Lunch Program, issued a “food safety hold” on  the sandwiches last week after the J.M. Three more companies have announced derivative recalls for products made with Sunland peanuts. The products are recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Sunland Inc. made Trader Joe's Valencia peanut butter, which has been recalled and linked to a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened at least 35 people in 19 states. Four Derivative Recalls Linked to Sunland Whole Peanut Recall

Four companies are recalling peanut products relating to the Sunland recall for possible Salmonella contamination. The derivative recalls will expand now that Sunland has recalled whole roasted and raw peanuts. No illnesses have been reported in relation to these recalled products. JagRma LLC is recalling NuttZo Original 16 ounce Nut and Seed butter  because it was made with Sunland peanuts. The product was manufactured in October and November 2011 and has "Best By Dates" of 10/7/12 - 12/31/12 stamped on the lid or bottom of the jar. Sunland Expands Salmonella Recall to Include Whole Peanuts

Sunland is expanding its huge recall of peanut butter and nut butter products to include roasted and raw, shelled and in-shell peanuts. The nuts either are within their current shelf life or have no stated expiration date. The original recall on September 24, 2012 included peanut butter and other products. One of Sunland's products, Trader Joe's Valencia peanut butter, has been linked to a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened 35 people in the United States. The peanuts were distributed mostly under the Company's label and distributed to produce houses and to large supermarket, grocery, and retail chains, as well as over the internet. FDA Confirms Salmonella Bredeney Found at Sunland Peanut Plant

The FDA confirmed today that the multistate outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney infections is definitively linked to Sunland peanut butter products. The government found Salmonella Bredeney in raw peanuts at the peanut processing facility. They also found the outbreak strain of the bacteria in environmental samples taken from the facility. Thirty-five people in 19 states are ill in this outbreak. Eight of the patients have been hospitalized. Sixty-three percent of the ill persons are children under the age of 10 years. Testing conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture found the outbreak strain of Salmonella Bredeney in an opened jar of Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Peanut Butter from a patient's home. Justin’s Expands Recall of Peanut Butter Products for Potential Salmonella

Justin's is expanding its September recall of peanut butter products that were made with Sunland Inc. ingredients because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Justin's was notified by its contract manufacturer, Fresca Foods, that Sunland peanuts were used in the production of some peanut butter products in the past, so the recall is being expanded. Chatanooga Bakery Expands Recall to Include Peanut Butter MoonPie Crunch

The Chattanooga Bakery is expanding their recall of products made with Peanut Butter Crunch because Sunland, the processor of peanuts potentially contaminated with Salmonella, has expanded their recall. Now code dates of MoonPie® Crunch Peanut Butter product of 10/29/12, 12/10/12, 01/07/13, and 01/29/13 are included in the recall. Sunland Inc. produced Trader Joe's Valencia peanut butter that has been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people, with complications including infected aneurysms, arthritis, and endocarditis. Three more corporations have recalled peanut butter ice cream products because they were made with Sunland products that may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. These derivative recalls are continuing weeks after Sunland recalled their products and a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak was announced that has sickened at least 35 people in 19 states. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products. Dean Foods is recalling two Albertsons brand ice cream products in 1.5 quart (1.42 L) sizes. The ice cream is in a "scround" container; one flavor is Peanut Butter Cup, with UPC number 41163 45891 and Any "Best By" or "EXP" dates ranging from 4/6/2011 to 9/25/2013.
