More Chia Powder Recalled for Salmonella

Health Matters America is recalling Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia Seed Powder and Sprouted Chia/Flax Seedd Powder for possible Salmonella contamination. There is an outbreak associated with chia seed powders that has sickened at least 17 people in the U.S.

The recalled products are Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia Seed Powder with lot numbers BIO13SBCS275, BIO13SBCS290, BIO14SBCS290, BIO13SBCS310, BIO13SBCS330, BIO13SBCS353, and BIO13SBCS364 with a net weight of 8 ounces. The UPC number is 854260006162. The product was also sold in 16 ounce packages with UPC number 854260005462; and cartons containing 50 LB. bulk bags.

Also recalled is Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia & Flax Seed Powder with lot numbers BIO13SFCB273, BIO13SFCB288, BIO13SFCB305, BIO13SFCB310, BIO13SFCB345, and BIO13SFCB350 in 8 ounce bags. The UPC number is 854260006216. The products was also sold in 16 ounce containers with UPC number 854260005479; and cartons containing 50 pound bulk bags.

Those products were sold to retailers, distributors, and through internet sales in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. No other Organic Traditions products are affected by this recall.

If you purchased these products, do not consume them. Discard in a closed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. You can see pictures of product labels at the FDA web site.
