Frozen Raw Chicken Products Recalled for Salmonella

Sofina Foods and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are recalling no name and Compliments brands frozen uncooked breaded chicken products for Salmonella contamination. There are illnesses reported in connection with the consumption of these products. In addition, a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota has been linked to similar products, but not these specific ones.

Compliments Chicken Strips Salmonella RecallIn Canada, the recalled products are Chicken Burgers with no brand name in 2 kg containers. The code on the product is 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and the UPC number is 0 60383 11695 8. Also recalled are Compliments Chicken Strips in 907 gram containers. The code on that product is BB/MA 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and the UPC number is 0 55742 33687 0. Finally, Compliments Chicken Nuggets in 907 gram containers is recalled. The code on that product is BB/MA 2016 JA 22 EST 374 and the UPC number is 0 55742 33688 7. You can see pictures of product labels at the CFIA web site.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that may be bloody. Most people recover on their own, but some people can become so sick they must be hospitalized. In addition, long term complications of a Salmonella infection can include severe arthritis and heart problems.
