Pink’s Ice Cream Recalls Ice Cream for Possible Listeria

Listeria seems to be the flavor of the month. Pink’s Ice Cream of Seattle is recalling all ice cream flavors produced in 2014 with the exception of Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. It was distributed through grocery stores and restaurants around the Puget Sound area, including Uwajimaya and Metropolitan Market in Washington.

Pinks Ice Cream Listeria RecallThe recalled flavors are Pink’s Ice Cream Black Sesame, Durian, Green Tea, Mango, Red Bean, Spicy Ginger, Taro, and Thai Tea in 16 ounce paper cartons. The production date is 1/1/14 – 12/21/14. Also recalled is the same flavors in 1.0 gallon plastic containers with the same production dates. This recall is a result of contamination found at Snoqualmie GourmetĀ Ice Cream, Pink’s dairy supplier. The products are sold with a six digit numerical product code that will start with two numbers between 00**** and 52****, with the exception of 01**** and 41****.

No illnesses related to the consumption of these products have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to manifest. If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the next 70 days for the symptoms of listeriosis, which include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infections can cause stillbirth and miscarriages among pregnant women. If you do get sick, see your doctor immediately.

If you purchased any of these products, return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Then wash your hands thoroughly and clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.
