Sam’s Club Smoked Salmon Listeria Recall Expands

Listeria concerns have prompted a recall expansion of smoked salmon products sold at Sam’s Club, other stores and food service companies nationwide. Delifish expanded the recall, originally announced December 31, to include all products made during the same time period as the product that originally tested positive for Listeria during routine testing.

Salmon TapewormThere have been no other positive tests for the bacteria. Delifish is expanding the recall as a precautionary measure as Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal illness. Symptoms of an infection from Listeria monocytogenes high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The recalled salmon was sold in slices, crumbles, pieces, and loins or large chunks under a variety of brand names (see list below). The recall now includes all lot numbers from 235 to 345 and from 249 to 291.

All products under the expanded recall have lot numbers from 235 to 345 and include: Bacon Lascco in 3 oz. packages with the UPC 072840017036; Food Service Cold Smoked Salmon Trim in 1 lb. packages; Icy Point smoked salmon in 2-3 lb. packages with no UPC; Lassco Select Gourmet in 8 oz. packages with the UPC 072840017081; Natural Trimming in 5 lb. packages with NO UPC; New England Smoked Salmon in 4 oz. packages with the UPC 810230000066; Nathans 8 oz packages with the UPC 073030803699 Lot #’s = 235 thru 345, Nathans 3 oz packages with the UPC 073030803682; Nova  (Wheel) in 16 oz. sizes with the UPC 072840007273; Nova Lascco in 4 oz. packages with the UPC 072840017050; Pacific Supreme in 3 oz. packages with the UPC 058138102448; Party Platter in 6 oz sizes with NO UPC; Royal Fjord Smoked Toppers in 6 oz. packages with the UPC 810230000561; Royal Fjord Sliced Smoked Salmon Loin, in 12-14 oz. packages; Fjord Sliced Smoked Salmon in 5 lb. packages; Royal Fjord in 5 oz. rounds with the UPC 810230000127;  Sam’s smoked salmon in 20 oz. packages with the UPC 073030805167; Trimming with preservatives in 4 lb. packages with NO UPC; and  3 Star 4 oz. packages with the UPC 072840017517.

The products under the initial recall had lot numbers ranging from 249 to 291. They included: 1 lb. packages of Black Bear of the Black Forest Smoked Salmon with the UPC # 810230000493;  1 lb. packages of Food Service Cold Smoked Salmon Trim; 4 oz packages of  Einstein Darn Good  smoked salmon with UPC # 099892315200; 3-5 lb food service packs of Food Service Whole Smoked Side; 2-3 lb. smoked fillets from Silver Source Smoked Salmon Foodservice,  6 oz  packages of Royal Fjord Smoked Toppers with the UPC # 810230000561;   12-14 oz. packages of Royal Fjord Sliced Smoked Salmon Loin with item number 42925;  and HEB 4 oz. packages of  smoked salmon with UPC # 041220630417.

The most recent recall announcement says the product was “possibly” distributed to initially to Puerto Rico and to the following states: California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
