Artesana Chorizo Sausages Recalled for Misbranding

Artesana Chorizo is being recalled by New York Style Sausage Company of Sunnyvale, California because it is misbranded. The product contains sesame seed that is not declared on the label. The establishment is recalling about 371 pounds of the raw product.

The raw, Salvadoran chorizo sausage items were produced on June 8, 2018. The recalled product is 8 ounce cardboard packages containing “Artesana Specialty Sausages Chorizo Salvadoran recipe All Natural.” The product is labeled with the words “Keep refrigerated or frozen” and doesn’t have a use by or sell by date. The sausages do have the establishment number “EST. 9027” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausages were sold at Farmers Markets in California.

The problem was discovered by FSIS doing a routine inspection label verification. No illnesses or any adverse reactions, including allergic reactions, have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Early symptoms of allergic reactions include tingling of the mouth and tongue, a rash, scratchy throat, watery or itchy eyes, and nasal congestion.

If you bought this Artesana Chorizo and are allergic to or sensitive to sesame seeds, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.

FSIS thinks some of this product may be in consumers’ freezers. Check your freezer. If you have it, discard it.

FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to make sure that recalling firms are telling their customers about recalls. They also want to make sure that these recalled products are no longer available for customers to purchase.
