Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania Part of Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Salmonella Outbreak

Updated September 25, 2012 There are now 30 confirmed cases of Salmonella poisoning linked to Trader Joe's peanut butter in 19 states, and 4 of them were hospitalized, including one person in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Attorney Fred Pritzker, who represents Salmonella victims nationwide, has been contacted by potential victims of this outbreak. "Sunland, Inc., the manufacturer of the Trader Joe's peanut butter associated with this outbreak, has recalled many of its products containing peanuts and almonds. I expect this outbreak to grow and more states to be involved," said Pritzker. Salmonella Bredeney Outbreak Associated with Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter

The CDC has issued a report on Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. The product has been removed from store shelves. It was distributed nationwide. The product is in 16 ounce plastic jars; all code dates are included in the recall. If you have purchased this product, do not eat it; return it to the store for a refund or throw it out. For more questions, call Trader Joe's Customer Relations at 626-599-3817. So far, 29 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Bredeney have been reported to PulseNet from 18 states. Four people have been hospitalized; there have been no deaths. Listeria Outbreak Linked to Frescolina Ricotta Salata Grows to Include Washington

The Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to imported Marte brand Frescolina ricotta salata cheese has grown. Now 15 people have been sickened with the outbreak strain of the bacteria in 12 states and the District of Columbia. The case numbers by state are as follows: California (1), Colorado (1), District of Columbia (1), Maryland (3), Minnesota (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (1), New Mexico (1), New York (1), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (1), and Washington (1). The one new case is from Washington state. All 15 people have been hospitalized. Three deaths have been reported. Illness onset dates range from March 28, 2012 to August 30, 2012. Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

The Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Rhode Island Department of Health, the Massachusetts Department of Health, and the New York City Health Department, among others, are warning consumers to discard Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with sea salt. The product may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. There is a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to the product since June 11, 2012. Some of the use by dates mentioned in the press releases include dates between 5/23/2013 and 6/28/2013. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Aliano’s Ristorante in Batavia, Illinois

Tom Schlueter, Communications Director for the Kane County Health Department in Illinois has told Food Poisoning Bulletin that there are eight people sickened with Salmonella linked to Aliano's Ristorante in Batavia, Illinois. One additional case is being investigated to see if it can be linked to the outbreak. The investigation is ongoing and all possible sources are being explored. The age range of patients is from 2 to 64. The illness onset dates are from August 29 to September 4, 2012. The restaurant has been fully compliant with the investigation and has conducted sanitizing and cleaning operations. First Listeria Lawsuit Filed Against Whole Foods

The first lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Whole Foods on behalf of John McKissick and his wife Patricia. Mr. McKissick was sickened in the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to Frescolina brand ricotta salata cheese imported by Forever Cheese Inc. and sold at Whole Foods stores. Mrs. McKissick purchased a variety of cheeses on May 27, 2012 at one of the Whole Foods stores in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. McKissick consumed a portion of each of the cheeses in the following days. Several days later, he began experiencing listeriosis symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, and fever. CDC Updates Multistate Salmonella Braenderup Mango Outbreak

The CDC has updated its investigation into the multistate outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup linked to imported Daniella mangoes from Mexico. So far, 121 people in 15 states are ill with the outbreak strain of the bacteria. Twenty-five people have been hospitalized, and there are no deaths. The 17 new cases are from four states: California (13), Hawaii (1), Illinois (1), and Washington (2). CDC Updates Deadly Cantaloupe Salmonella Outbreak

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have updated the multistate outbreak of Salmonella linked to cantaloupes produced on Chamberlain Farms in Indiana. Two outbreak strains of the bacteria have been discovered. The outbreak strain of Salmonella Typhimurium has sickened 240 people in 26 states, and Salmonella Newport has sickened 30 people in 7 states. The Chamberlain cantaloupes were recalled on August 28, 2012. Watermelons from the farm were recalled on September 9, 2012. The CDC has just updated its investigation into the Salmonella Braenderup outbreak associated with Mangoes imported from Mexico. Now 105 people in 16 states have been sickened with the outbreak strain of the bacteria. The number of ill persons in each state is: California (80), Delaware (1), Hawaii (3), Idaho (1), Illinois (1), Louisiana (1), Maine (1), Michigan (1), Montana (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (1), New York (3), Oregon (1), Texas (2), Washington (6), and Wisconsin (1).
