Five Sick in Pennsylvania in the Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Coconut Tree Frozen Shredded Coconut

Five people in Pennsylvania are sick in the Salmonella outbreak that is linked to Coconut Tree frozen shredded coconut, according to the CDC. Nationwide, at least 25 people are sick, and six people have been hospitalized. This outbreak could be much larger than stated, simply because most people who are sick with Salmonella infections don't go to the doctor. The multiplier for this illness is 38. That means there could be more than 900 people sickened across the country in this one outbreak. The states where ill persons live include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Washington. California Hard Hit in Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Frozen Coconut

California has been hard hit in the Salmonella outbreak that is linked to recalled Evershing frozen shredded coconut. As of January 17, 2018, nine people are sick in that state, according to the CDC. This outbreak had an unusual start. Officials at the Massachusetts Department of Health were notified about at least one person who was sick with an unusual strain of Salmonella bacteria in November 2017. One of the patients ate an "Asian-style dessert drink" at a restaurant. We don't know what the actual drink was; it could have been a smoothie, a cocktail, or blended ice cream. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Coconut Tree Frozen Shredded Coconut

At least 25 people are sick with Salmonella infections linked to recalled Coconut Tree brand frozen shredded coconut, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Six people have been hospitalized because their illnesses are so serious. No deaths have been reported. This Salmonella coconut outbreak is scattered across the country. The case count by state is: California (9), Colorado (1), Connecticut (1), Massachusetts (2), New Jersey (1), New York (1), Oklahoma (1), Pennsylvania (5), and Washington (4). Rare Salmonella Strain Found in Evershing Frozen Shredded Coconut While Investigating Illness

A rare strain of Salmonella was found in Evershing International frozen coconut by the Massachusetts Department of Health and led to a nationwide recall. Officials were investigating a single case of Salmonella food poisoning. Testing performed by Massachusetts found the pathogenic bacteria in Evershing International Trading Company Coconut Tree Brand Frozen Shredded Cococnut. The product was packaged in 16 ounce plastic bags and has item number 331223 with UPC number 05216-44081. It was distributed in  Ohio, Massachusetts, Washington, California, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Florida, and Texas. Coconut Tree Frozen Shredded Coconut Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Evershing International Trading Company is recalling some frozen shredded coconut because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The recalled product is 16 ounce containers of Coconut Tree Brand Frozen Shredded Coconut, with item number 331223 and UPC number 05216-44081. The recalled is limited to Lot SE07A1, but the lot number is only printed on the product case, not the individual packages. This product was sold in Ohio, Massachusetts, Washington, California, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Florida, and Texas.
