Hy-Vee, Schnucks Recall Maytag Blue Cheese for Listeria

Listeria in Maytag Blue Cheese has prompted a recall from Hy-Vee and Schnucks. At the time of the recall,  no illnesses were reported in connection with the cheese, but consumers who have purchased it should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. And symptoms of an infection can take as long as 70 days to develop. Symptoms of an infection include headache, stiff neck, muscle aches often preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Those most at risk are pregnant women, children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
