Westby Cottage Cheese Retrieved for Improper Pasteurization

Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture issued a consumer alert for 4% cottage cheese made by Westby Cooperative Creamery for possible improper pasteurization. Now they are issuing a "voluntary product retrieval notice" which is basically a recall. The product was manufactured and packaged on August 17, 2016, and possibly sold to consumers on or before August 26, 2016. The cottage cheese is packaged in 16 ounce, 22 ounce, and 24 ounce containers, under the brand names of Westby, Food Club, Oberweis, and Shurfine. The containers are marked with Lot Code 10-6-16 cc, and Plant #55-372. About 700 cases of the product, with 12 containers per case, were distributed in Wisconsin and to a distribution center in Aurora, Illinois. Wisconsin Ag Issues Consumer Alert for Westby Cottage Cheese

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has issued a consumer alert for 4% cottage cheese made by Westby Cooperative Creamery because it may not be properly pasteurized. Consumers who purchased the product should not eat it as it may contain bacteria that could cause illness.located in Westby, Wisconsin. The presence of active alkaline phosphatase was discovered in samples during routine testing and may indicate that the product was not adequately pasteurized. The cheese was distributed throughout Wisconsin and in Aurora, Illinois, on or before August 26, and marked with the lot code 10-6-16 cc and Plant #55-372. It was packaged in 16-, 22- and 24-ounce containers and sold under the brand names Westby, Food Club, Oberweis and Shurfine. Edgwick Farm Chocolate Goat Milk Recalled

Chocolate goat milk is being recalled in New York for improper pasteurization. Pasteurization kills bacteria that are naturally present in the milk of ruminant animals. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The recalled product is Edgwxick Farm Chocolate Goat Milk. It is sold in half-gallon plastic containers. The code on the product is 060415 BEST BY 061815. It was sold at several Hudson Valley Farmers' Markets last week. The milk was produced by Edgwxick Farm LTD in Cornwall, New York. Flying Cow Creamery Yogurt Recalled for Improper Pasteurization

Flying Cow Creamery of Rochester, Washington is recalling one lot of its whole milk yogurt for improper pasteurization. Inspection by the Washington State Department of Agriculture found that time and temperature recordings were not made while that lot was being pasteurized. There is no record of proper pasteurization of the product. >The recalled product is Flying Cow Creamery Whole Milk Yogurt in 32 ounce glass jars with a white lid. The batch number is 70. The best before date is 12/3. The yogurt was sold in Rochester, Olympia, Seattle, Chehalis, Federal Way, and Tacoma in Washington state. Sunny Pine Farm Recalls Chèvre Cheese for Improper Pasteurization

Sunny Pine Farm of Washington is recalling organic Chèvre cheese (goat cheese) because of possible improper pasteurization. Pasteurization heats milk used to make the cheese to effectively kill all disease-causing bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella. The Farm "does not know of any illness or complaints associated with the recalled cheese". The cheeses are Organic Chèvre, Organic Parsley Chive Chèvre, and Organic Honey Lavender Chèvre. They were sold in plastic 6 ounce tubs in the Twisp-Winthrop area in Washington state. They are sold through community supported agriculture (CSA) and retail outlets.
