Lawsuit Filed Against Diamond Pet Foods

The law firm of Pritzker Hageman filed what is believed to be the first lawsuit against Diamond Pet Food Processors and Costco Wholesale Corporation for damages caused by pet food contaminated by Salmonella.  The lawsuit was filed on Monday in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey (case number 3:12-CV-03127-JAP-LHG) on behalf of an infant who was hospitalized with a Salmonella Infantis infection. Diamond Pet Foods Recall for Salmonella Expanded Again

The Diamond Pet Foods recall for Salmonella has been expanded again to include another product. The recall of dry dog and cat foods began on April 6, 2012 and was expanded several times. This particular food was manufactured on August 26, 2011, and is being recalled due to potential Salmonella exposure. The plant where the food was manufactured was cited for food safety failures after an investigation by the FDA. No illnesses have been reported connected to this product. Food Safety Issues at Diamond Pet Food Plant

The FDA has released results of their investigation at the Diamond Pet Foods plant in Gaston, South Carolina. The government found several issues and violations of food safety laws. Some of the food produced at that plant have been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella food poisoning in nine states and Canada that has sickened at least 15 people. After reports of Salmonella Infantis illnesses were reported to authorities, public health officials started an investigation. The common thread among all the patients was contact with dry pet food. Cargill Recalls Some Animal Feed Products

Cargill Animal Nutrition announced a voluntary recall of some regional poultry and calf feed, and some whole and cracked corn products because of high levels of aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a mold that grows on grain that was stressed while it was growing. Exposure to high levels of aflatoxin can cause liver failure. The products were produced between September 6, 2011, and December 1, 2011. Dumor and Producer's Price brands were distributed in 43 stores in southern Arkansas, Louisiana, southern Mississippi and eastern Texas. CDC Updates Salmonella Infantis Outbreak Linked to Dry Dog Food

The CDC has updated its investigation into the Salmonella Infantis outbreak that has been linked to several brands of dry dog food produced by Diamond Pet Foods in South Carolina. So far, 15 people have been sickened. Five have been hospitalized; there have been no deaths. In addition, one person in Canada is ill. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Diamond Pet Foods Dry Food

On April 6, 2012, Diamond Pet Foods recalled some of their dry dog food for Salmonella contamination. Since then, many other brands have been involved in this recall, including some brands of cat food, and an outbreak of Salmonella Infantis has sickened 14 people and hospitalized 5 in nine states. One person has been sickened in Canada. All of the food has been manufactured at the Diamond plant in Gaston, South Carolina. One Person in Canada Sickened in Pet Food Outbreak

The Public Health Agency of Canada has announced that one person in that country has been sickened with a Salmonella infection linked to the recalled dry dog and cat foods manufactured at the Diamond Pet Foods plant in South Carolina. Fourteen people in nine states in the United States are sick. The ill person is from Quebec, Canada. Several brands of pet food manufactured at that specific plant have been recalled in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
