Customers Exposed to Hepatitis A at New Hawaii Sea Bronx Restaurant

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is warning customers of the New Hawaii Sea restaurant in the Bronx that they may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus. Five people are sick with this virus, including one employee and four customers. The restaurant is located at 1475 Williamsbridge Road in the Bronx, New York City. Anyone who ate there, either in-store, or through catering or delivery, between September 7 and September 19, 2013 may have been exposed. Any leftover food from the restaurant should be discarded. Hepatitis A Exposure at Southampton Driver’s Seat Restaurant

A worker at the Driver's Seat Restaurant at 62 Jobs Lane in Southampton, New York has tested positive for hepatitis A, according to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS). Anyone who ate there between August 6 and August 20, 2013 may have been exposed to the virus. A hepatitis A or immune globulin vaccine within 2 weeks of exposure can prevent or lessen the severity of illness. The county will offer free hepatitis A or immune globulin vaccinations to anyone who dined at this restaurant between August 16 and August 20, 2013. Shiawassee County Salmonella Outbreak Case Count at 13

The Salmonella outbreak in Shiawassee County, Michigan has grown to include 13 people. Of those 13 cases, 9 are confirmed and 4 cases are suspect, according to Courtney Herrick, Director of Personal & Community Health Services for the county. Ms. Herrick told Food Poisoning Bulletin that public health officials "took food samples from the restaurant that was the potential source but all tests came back 'not detected' for salmonella." The investigation is ongoing, and the restaurant has not been named. The Health Department is working with the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to determine the cause. Salmonella Outbreak in Shiawassee County, Michigan Sickens Seven

Courtney Herrick, Director of Personal and Community Health Services in Shiawassee County, Michigan, told Food Poisoning Bulletin that there is a Salmonella outbreak in that county. Seven people have been confirmed with the infection, and four cases are suspected. No one has been hospitalized in this outbreak. The illness onset dates range from 7/28/13 to 8/4/13. At this time, public health officials are not releasing the name of the restaurant in Owosso suspected as being the cause of the outbreak, as they are still trying to pinpoint the source. Food Worker Diagnosed with Hepatitis A in Contoocook, New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services is warning patrons of two restaurants in Contoocook that a food service worker has been diagnosed with hepatitis A. Anyone who visited the covered Bridge Restaurant and the American Legion between July 20, 2013 and August 3, 2013 may have been exposed to the virus. Dr. Jose Montero, NH's Public Health Director said in a statement, "we realize this may be concerning to anyone who may have been exposed to this illness at either of these establishments. While we believe the risk of exposure is extremely low, we are conducting a thorough investigation to help identify anyone who may be at risk so that they can receive prophylaxis." Utah Ancestor Square Pizza Factory Hepatitis A Exposure

According to the Southwest Utah Public Health Department (SWUPHD), a food worker at the Ancestor Square Pizza Factory in Washington County, Utah has tested positive for hepatitis A. Anyone who ate at this restaurant during certain hours in July may have been exposed to the virus. If you ate there July 19 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm, July 20 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm, July 23 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, July 26 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm, or July 27 from 5:00 to 9:30 pm, contact the Southwest Utah Public Health Department for more information. Salmonella Outbreak Associated with Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Cumberland County, NC

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health in North Carolina has announced a Salmonella outbreak among staff and patrons of the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville. The hotel has two restaurants: the All American Sports Bar and Grill and the Cafe Bordeaux. The facility also has a banquet kitchen. Cumberland County Health Department Director Buck Wilson said, "we are actively working with the hotel and restaurant management and with state officials to resolve this as soon as possible." The management of the hotel is fully cooperating with local and state authorities. There are two confirmed cases of Salmonella infections. One person has been hospitalized. Firefly Salmonella Outbreak: Illnesses Usually Underreported

The Salmonella outbreak linked to Firefly on Paradise restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada has sickened at least 89 people, including 86 patrons and 3 employees. But the actual illness count may be much higher. Why? The seating capacity of the restaurant is 85 people. The restaurant was open from 11:30 am to 2:00 am every day. A conservative estimated turnover of five per table per night means at dinner, Firefly could serve 425 people. Double that for the lunch crowd. The people who were sickened ate at the restaurant on six days: April 21-26, 2013. Worker at Nordstrom Cafe in San Francisco May Have Spread Typhoid Fever

According to the San Francisco Department of Health, a worker at the Nordstrom Café may have spread typhoid fever in April. Anyone who ate at that restaurant at the Stonestown Galleria Mall in San Francisco on April 16, 17, 18, 20, or 27, 2013 are at risk for becoming ill. The employee apparently got sick during a trip outside the country. Symptoms of typhoid fever include fever, weakness, stomach pains, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite. Some patients can develop a rash of flat, rose-colored spots. Symptoms between within 8 to 14 days after exposure, but some people won't get sick until 30 days after exposure. Patrons at Alta Restaurant in New York City Possibly Exposed to Hepatitis A

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is warning patrons of Alta Restaurant in the West Village that they may have been exposed to Hepatitis A. Anyone who ate dessert at that restaurant from March 23 to April 2, 2013 should get a Hepatitis A vaccine as a precaution. A food handler tested positive for the virus at the restaurant, which is located at 64 W. 10th Street in New York City. Hepatitis A is spread by putting anything in your mouth that is contaminated with fecal matter from an infected person. Symptoms of the illness include jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
