Sandy Plains Baptist Church Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 95

The Salmonella outbreak at the Sandy Plains Baptist Church barbecue has now sickened 95 people, according to news reports. Most of those sickened, 47,  are in Rutherford county. Forty-four ill persons live in Cleveland County, and four others live in other counties. The fundraising barbecue was held on September 7, 2013. Reports of illness started reaching public health officials about a week later. As many as 5,000 people attended the event. The symptoms of salmonellosis, the illness caused by the Salmonella bacteria, include diarrhea that may be bloody, fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting, fever, chills, headache, and muscle pains. Sandy Plains Baptist Church Salmonella Outbreak Case Count Increases

The case count of those sickened with Salmonella after eating at the Sandy Plains Baptist Church earlier this month has increased to 71. Thirteen people have been hospitalized in this outbreak. Those who are ill live in Rutherford County and Cleveland County, North Carolina. Public health officials in Cleveland County still do not know the source of the bacteria. Officials believe that the outbreak is not growing; more people are included in the outbreak because doctors are reporting the illnesses to the public health department, which takes time. Sandy Plains Church Salmonella Outbreak Case Count Increases

The outbreak of Salmonella at the Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Shelby, North Carolina has grown to include 54 people. As of Wednesday, September 18, nine cases have been confirmed by laboratory tests, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services; that number is now eleven, according to other news reports. Five people have been hospitalized in this outbreak, and all but one have been released. As many as 5,000 people attended the barbecue. Investigators have not determined the source of the bacteria. UTC Cafeteria in Salmonella Outbreak Returns Chicken to Menu

The UTC Salmonella and Campylobacter outbreak associated with dining facilities on the Chattanooga, Tennessee, campus has subsided to the point where the all-you-can-eat Crossroads Cafeteria has returned chicken to its menu, a school official said. Public health investigators for Hamilton County are still investigating the outbreak, which sickened upwards of two dozen students and staff, but preliminary reports have found evidence that points to contaminated chicken as the possible source of illness. El Potrero Salmonella Outbreak Leads to Restaurant Changes

The El Potrero restaurant in Owosso, Michigan, that is at the center of a Salmonella food poisoning outbreak had been handling chicken and beef in the same buckets that it used to make salsa, the head server at the restaurant said. The outbreak in Shiawassee County appears to be over, but 13 people contracted salmonellosis as determined by investigators from the county health department. Valerie Trujilo, the head server at the Mexican restaurant, told WLNS Channel 6 that a correction has been made so that staff no longer uses the same buckets for meat that it does for salsa and chicken and beef. El Potrero Restaurant in Owosso, Michigan, Tied to Outbreak

Salmonella food poisoning investigators for Shiawassee County are probing an outbreak that they say may be tied to the El Potrero Mexican Restaurant in Owosso, Michigan, west of Flint. There was nothing on the Shiawassee County Health Department website, but local newspaper The Argus-Press reported the investigation and said representatives of El Potrero said they are shocked the probe has focused on the business because of its emphasis on sanitation. Manager Alex Aylala Friday told the newspaper that the health department’s investigation has centered on the restaurant’s salsa and canned tomatoes used in the preparation of the condiment. Iowa Salmonella Outbreak Seen Early in Mason City

Mason City, Iowa, is the center of a Salmonella outbreak investigation that preceded a wider outbreak notice announced Friday by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Mason City is the seat of government for Cerro Gordo County, which leads all 19 Iowa counties in the number of illnesses associated with an outbreak of salmonellosis that may be linked to poultry or eggs. After Salmonella Outbreak, Iguana Joe’s Restaurant Passes Inspection

The Iguana Joe's restaurant at 18319 West Lake Houston Parkway in Humble, Texas has passed inspection after being closed for a Salmonella outbreak in June. No violations were found in the inspection conducted on June 29, 2013, although there is no word on whether or not the restaurant has reopened. But on several occasions earlier in the month, inspections revealed many food safety issues. An inspection on June 21, 2013 found violations of Good Hygienic Practices. On June 22, 2013, 29 demerits were issued; a number above 20 is "of concern", according to the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Department. Iguana Joe’s Restaurant Salmonella Outbreak in Houston, TX Area: Lawyer Video

At least 20 people, including children, reported getting sick after eating at Iguana Joe's Restaurant in Atascocita, Texas, on Father's Day weekend. The number of ill is likely rise since it takes time between when a person gets sick, they see a doctor, and are tested. According to the Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services, the restaurant was closed on June 25 because of health code violations, including food that was not held at the correct temperature. Firefly Salmonella Outbreak — 200 Patrons of Las Vegas Restaurant Report Salmonella Food Poisoning

The Southern Nevada Health District and lawyers are investigating the Firefly Salmonella outbreak. To date, there are 200 reports of Salmonella food poisoning from people who ate at the Firefly Restaurant on Paradise Road in Las Vegas the week of April 21, 2013, according to the health district. Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea, and several victims of this outbreak have been hospitalized with more serious complications.
