Walgreens Pulls Phony Herbal Supplements; Walmart, Target, GNC Keep Selling

After tests showed their store-brand herbal supplements did not to contain the herbs on their labels,  Walmart, Walgreens Target and GNC all received cease and desist letters from New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman yesterday.  Only Walgreens has responded by pulling the products. Walmart Target and GNC issued statements that they were looking into the matter. While they do, their shoppers cam feel free to shell out $8-$10 on bottles full of sand, allium, pine, wheat/grass, rice mustard, citrus, dracaena (houseplant) or cassava (tropical tree root), but labeled Ginseng, Garlic, St John' Wort or Echinacea. Hummus, Dips Sold at Target, Trader Joe’s Recalled for Listeria

A number of dips are being recalled for possible contamination. Lansal, d.b.a. Hot Mama's Foods is recalling about 14,860 pounds of hummus and dip products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported, but the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by the Listeria bacteria, can take months to manifest. You can see the pictures of product labels at the FDA web site. The recalled products include Target Archer Farms Tradition Hummus in 10 ounce containers. The UPC number is 85239233405, use by date is June 11, 2014, and it was sold nationally. Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus in 2 pound packages is recalled. Target Joins List of Retailers Saying No To GE Salmon

Target has joined the list of retailers pledging to keep genetically engineered (GE) salmon out of their stores if the GE fish is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA will likely not requie labeling of genetically engineered salmon, if it's approved, leaving  consumers with no way of knowing if the fish they are buying is natural engineered. During the comment period on GE salmon, more than 1.5 million people submitted comments to the FDA opposing the approval of what would be the first-ever GE animal approved for human consumption.
